Arts & Culture

The Greater Capital Region is lucky to have a growing creative business sector, a community of creative people, and many fantastic venues and organizations that are working hard to sustain a level of quality entertainment, preserve the rich history of our area, and provide opportunities for local artists.

Creative industries account for nearly 24,000 jobs in the Capital Region making the creative economy one of the most important in our area. The Capital Region has the second highest concentration of creative jobs amongst metropolitan regions of similar size. (From the Regional Alliance for the Creative Economy research study. Visit for more information on the study.)

Stakeholders, Inc. is committed to supporting and advancing the initiatives identified by the Regional Alliance for the Creative Economy’s research study.  Their action agenda provides a blueprint for the public, private, and nonprofit sectors as well as for individual artists, creative freelancers, and residents as they collectively seek to leverage the region’s creative assets to stimulate economic growth.

Collaboration and regional thinking will help strengthen the creative economy and better use the many creative assets available in the Capital Region and surrounding counties.

Through the Civic Engagement Council Arts and Culture Task Force, creative businesses, non-profits, and individuals will assess how, together, their time, energy and resources could best be used to further the initiatives of the Creative Economy Project. By partnering on this existing creative economy agenda, we will foster cooperation and collaboration to build stronger regional ties and ultimately a stronger creative economy.

Members of the Task Force will support the Regional Alliance for the Creative Economy by:

  • Educating themselves and others on the service issue
  • Helping connect human and capital resources to strengthen the capacity of the organizations who serve the sector (foster cross sector collaboration)
  • Assisting with seeking funds to carry out Task Force service initiatives
  • Working with other members of the Task Force and alliance to complete projects
  • Tracking progress with data/numbers and report on it regularly to keep everyone on course.
